A Writer’s Pledge

It was nearly 14 years ago when I started writing this book. I think initially it was to satisfy the need to comply with a pledge I had made to my father, stating that I was going to write a book. He had written a book himself and gave me a copy to read many years ago. I sat on a balcony overlooking the crystal blue ocean waters as a teenager on a family vacation in Jamaica reading his book titled, How To Build A God At Home In Your Spare Time. I can recall saying to him, “I’m going to write a book myself someday.” He asked me, “What will the subject be?” I replied, “I wasn’t sure just yet but I was certain I would write one.” Now some 14 years after having begun writing, How To Find A Job When There Are No Jobs, with a crude note pad and pen I can reflect back on my father’s passing back in June of 1997 and with confidence say, “I am indeed a writer and have fulfilled my pledge to him having finished this book and am now well into writing my second book, a novel.” I think he would be proud of my accomplishments, as I am of his.
